Braai Day Salad – Green Salad with Sausage, Avocado & A Coriander Dressing

We all know that us South Africans LOVE to braai – it must be the ultimate food tradition / cooking method / food in South Africa…

‘Braai’ – it not only describes a cooking method {cooking food, usually meat, over open coals, similar to a barbecue}, but it can also be used to describe the actual event.
As in, come on over for a ‘braai’…

Typical ‘braai’ food is a s election of meat {chops, steaks, sausage – usually ‘boerewors’}, along with a variety of salads, perhaps a veggie dish and some form of bread, usually sandwiches with tomato & cheese, toasted on the braai. {You won’t find any ‘braaibroodjies’ at our house #justsayin}

We even have a special day set aside to celebrate this fantastic braai tradition and our heritage as South Africans…

Soo – National Braai Day is on the 24th of September – this Thursday and this Braai Day salad is simple and just delicious!

Green Salad with Sausage, Avocado & a Coriander Dressing {LCHF, Paleo, Banting} - Square

Whether you have it as a meal by itself, a side dish or serve it the next day using leftover boerewors – it’s simple, super tasty and a winner all-round!

#BraaiDay Salad - Green Salad with Avocado, Sausage & a Coriander Dressing

  • Servings: 4-6

You will need:

cooked boerewors, cut into bite-sized pieces {make sure you use one without any fillers and other nasties – not all sausages are created equal 😉 }
a selection of your favourite salad greens
avocado
Parmesan shavings
a handful fresh coriander, chopped + more to go into the salad
2 cloves of garlic
1 tsp sea salt
2 tbs olive oil
1 tbs red wine vinegar

Arrange the salad greens onto a serving plate and place the boerwors pieces on top.
Add sliced avocadoes and Parmesan shavings.

To make the coriander dressing, blend the chopped coriander, garlic, salt, vinegar & olive oil in a mortar & pestle.

Drizzle over the salad and enjoy.
